Grower - Flavio Basilicata & Silvana Forte

< back

Run with dedication and passion by the fabulous team of Flavio Basilicata & Silvana Forte, the 5 hectare Le Due Terre is one of the jewels in the Collio Orientali del Friuli’s crown. Situated close to the Italy/Slovenia border the estate produces around 20 000 bottles annually from their organically run vineyard which is planted a mix of the native Friuli varieties of Tocai (Friulano), Ribolla Gialla, Refosco, Schiopettino and also smaller amounts of Pinot Nero & Merlot. The vines were planted in 1998 at a density of around 4500 plants per hectare and trained in the Guyot system and face south-east and south-west. The soil at Le Due Terre is a mix of clay and the traditional ponca stones.

The harvesting is done by hand and usually takes place between the second week of September for the white grapes and first week of October for the reds. All of the wines are fermented naturally with native yeasts, the Tocai and Ribolla Gialla sit with their skins for around 10 days and then pressed and fermented French barriques & tonneaux. The reds are fermeted in cement for around 14 days then transferred to French barriques for 22 months.

We have shipped the fabulous 2009 Sacrisassi Bianco (70%Tocai & 30% Ribolla Gialla)  & the 2009 Sacrisassi Rosso (50% Refesco & 50% Schiopettino). The 2009 vintage shows what a special site Flavio & Silvana have and the wines are finely balanced and full of verve and flavour.
